Connecting to the Wireless CUMC Network

Wireless access is available at specific locations on the CUMC campus, on either the Rome or Athens networks. Each of these two networks require that any system using them is registered for a wireless network address, and has appropriate configurations set and/or software installed. For specific Rome and Athens locations please see the list of available coverage below.

As with the Wired network, all computers must first:

  1. Have received all critical updates and patches for their operating systems
  2. Have updated antivirus and antispyware programs running
  3. Be free of viruses, trojans, and other malicious programs

Please be sure to have existing systems scanned for these prior to registration, or they could be blocked from the network.

In order to connect to wireless at CUMC you must:

  1. Register Your Wireless Network Card - please be sure you select the correct online form or you will have to re-register.
    Student Wireless Registration
    Faculty and Staff Wireless Registration
Registration can only be submitted online, and should be processed within two to four business days.
  2. Configure your Computer
Rome and Athens require different configurations depending on your computer's operating system; please see the appropriate instructions on each web site. It is fine to install both types of software necessary for Rome and Athens as they will not conflict with each other. Please select the appropriate link for the location at which you would like to connect:
    • Rome - select this link for all operating systems:
      Windows XP, 2000, NT
      Windows 98 and 95
Macintosh OS X (10.4 Tiger, 10.3 Panther and 10.2 Jaguar)
      Older Macintosh clients (deprecated)
      Linux
    • Athens
      Windows XP
      Macintosh OS 10.4 (Tiger)
Other operating systems (including older versions of Windows and Macintosh) are not supported on Athens due in part to required wireless authentication and encryption protocols.
